The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo has urged to avoid political “noise” Following the incidents that occurred during the visit of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, to Paiporta, calling for a focus on caring for people affected by DANA.
“The emergency continues, unfortunately it seems that it will continue for a long time and The priorities in any emergency are to save people and minimize material damage. Therefore, I believe that we all must be, or everyone should be, focused exactly on that.”, he said in statements to the media on Monday.
For his part, he recalled that the Canary Islands sent personnel and the requested material to help on Sunday. “We have sent what they have asked for,” he said, “because in the end when you deploy all these resources in the territory you have to be perfectly organized if you want them to have the desired effect.”
Clavijo has placed special emphasis on the need to be “on call” to supply whatever they need. and that those who are managing the emergency situation know how they have the resources.
Questioned about the incidents in Paiporta, the Canarian president understood that right now it is an issue that "does not concern us", since everyone has to be focused on saving people and rescuing survivors if there are any.
“The rest is noise. We need to use a little common sense and concentrate on what we have. There will be plenty of time in the future to evaluate, talk and learn, but now it is an emergency and you have to concentrate on that,” he concluded.
