David Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, brother of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has presented his resignation this Wednesday as head of the Office of Performing Arts of the Provincial Council of Badajoz. His resignation comes amid a judicial investigation into possible irregularities in his hiring in 2017.

The investigation, launched after a complaint from the Manos Limpias union, is focused on determining whether the position occupied by Sánchez was created specifically for him and whether he met the necessary requirements for the position. In addition, accusations of alleged illicit enrichment and residence in Portugal to evade taxes have been evaluated, although reports from the Civil Guard and the Tax Agency have ruled out indications of tax crimes.

On January 9, David Sánchez testified as a suspect before the Investigative Court Number 3 of Badajoz, defending the legality of his hiring and denying any irregularities in the performance of his duties. His resignation comes at a time when the investigation continues, with the summons of other people involved, including the president of the Provincial Council of Badajoz, Miguel Ángel Gallardo.
